About Us

Our Founder- Nyla McGee

A Howard University student who is passionate about caring for youth. Nyla started this non-profit organization to assist adolescents with the same struggles she faced attending school. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, education is sought by few. Currently, only 1 out of 5 high schools remain open due to high dropout rates. Furthermore, as a child in the foster care system, she faced additional obstacles that discouraged her from receiving an education. She believes there needs to be an emphasis in school on why pursuing higher education is important and students require support to overcome their challenges.

Lela Sommerio

A Howard University student who is passionate about educating youth on pursuing higher education. As an HBCU student, Lela believes in the importance of showing children of color that pursuing higher education is an attainable and realistic goal. She advocates for equity in every classroom and deems that schools should be safe spaces where students are able to flourish in their environment whilst truly being themselves. Additionally, as the child of a Chicago Public School teacher, Lela has witnessed firsthand how financial burdens and lack of resources can discourage youth from pursuing higher education. Therefore, she believes it is our duty as today’s leaders to ensure students receive the aid and information necessary to succeed in their educational careers and discover the true power of higher education.
